Breakin' Golan & Globus

Nobody ever argued that mega-schlock film producers Golan and Globus were adept at making critically acclaimed films. They were adept at making profits, however, and those profits were typically made from gimmicky films that spoke to audiences at the time. In fact, the expiration dates for many of their films would practically arrive just as the film finished its first run. A perfect example was the 1984 hit Breakin'.

Rank it to Stank it!

This film was perfectly timed to capitalize on the Break Dancing craze of the mid-1980's. Luckily for Golan and Globus, the fad had not yet burned out when their $1.5 Million film hit theaters. It would go on to make a staggering $65 Million worldwide. A huge profit margin for a modest film. Sadly for the guys, this film would be the pinnacle of their producing career. No other film from their Cannon Studios would show a profit again.

So who would like to forget this film? That would be the poster boy for stuck up rich guys, Christopher McDonald, who would find himself acting alongside "Shabba Doo" and "Boogaloo Shrimp". It would make his later role in Happy Gilmore seem distinguished by comparison.
